Accommodation in Jaipur

Shared serviced apartment in Jaipur

The shared serviced apartment in Jaipur is located in a 4 storey residential building in a residential area of good standards, in walking distance from shopping malls, parks, and public transport.

A maximum of 12 participants are sharing the apartment, staying at shared rooms (4-share), which are separated by gender. The apartment furthermore has 2 bathrooms with a hot and cold shower, a kitchen, a communal space with fridge and cable TV, a balcony, and a rooftop. There is free Wifi.

There are 2 rooms with air conditioning and one without. There is an extra charge for the rooms with air conditioning. Temperatures in Jaipur are high between March and October.

3 Indian meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are served at the house and are included in the rent. At least once per week an activity is offered to our participants in Jaipur at no extra cost, such as Indian dance, cooking lessons, Yoga, or Hindi lessons. The house manager Pooja (who on the pictures is wearing a yellow t-shirt) also stays at the apartment and is your contact person.

Host Family in Jaipur

You will staying with an Indian host family who will serve you 3 meals per day. You will share your room either with another participant of the same gender or, in case of younger participants, share with a teenage child of your host family ("Host brother"/"host sister"). Single room accommodation is possible at a little extra. Staying with a host family, you can also join at least once per week an activity such as Indian dance, cooking lessons, Yoga, or Hindi lessons, at no extra charge.

How do I pay?

Once all your questions have been answered and you confirm that you want to participate, we will email you an invoice. You can pay it via bank transfer, credit card or via Paypal. You will pay a deposit of 200 EUR / 250 USD when the invoice is issued. One months prior to your arrival you will pay the remainder for your Service Package.

The payment modalities for rent and possible further costs (e.g. internship supervision fees, as stated in info box of the respective project description) depend on your host country and placement. We will inform you beforehand. In many cases these costs are paid on site, but for some countries and placements they need to be paid partially or fully in advance.

Rajasthan - The Land of the Kings

Rajasthan is located in the North-West of India and means "Land of the Kings". More than 2500 years ago, tribes built cities, and kingdoms were formed, which existed until the British colonial time in the 19th century. The largest state of India, in terms of area, is determined by the landscapes of the Thar Desert and the Aravalli Range, which are rich in forts and palaces of the Rajput kings. Due to its natural beauty and cultural heritage, Rajasthan is today, one of India's most popular travel destinations. Jaipur is part of the so-called "Golden Triangle", consisting of the cities of Agra (Taj Mahal), Delhi and Jaipur, which is part of every round trip in northern India.

Jaipur is known as the "Pink City" due to the dominant color of its buildings. The 3 million-people city has numerous forts, palaces and temples. Jaipur is also known for its jewelry industry. More than 14,000 people produce jewelery made of metal, stone and rubber lacquer, typically at small backyard workshops, which are sold all over the world.

Jodhpur is called the "blue city" due to the colour of its houses. The city is overlooked by the mighty Meherangarh Fort. There is also a university in Jodhpur.

Setrawa is a village in the Thar desert, located around 100 km north of Jodhpur. A problem in Rajasthan is the scarcity of water. In the Thar desert, the only annual rains pour down in the form of heavy thunderstorms during the months of July to September, when temperatures normally go up to 50 degree Celsius. Traditionally, the water of these hot summer months are stored in ponds that are the shape of a half moon, called Johad. In the patriarchal society of the rural regions, women are denied access to education and social life.

Jaipur and Jodhpur can count with a large number of forts, palaces, temples, historical and natural history museums, and gardens and parks that you can visit. At both cities you can also take part in yoga classes, cooking lessons, Indian dance session, and join other cultural activities.

Jaipur: Jaipur has a large international airport. It is best if you book your flight directly there. From Jaipur Airport (JAI) our local team will pick you up and bring you to your accommodation in Jaipur.

Jodhpur: You book a flight to Jodhpur (JDH) where you will be picked up from the airport by our local team and taken to your accommodation in Jodhpur.

Setrawa: You will book a flight to Jodhpur (JDH) where you will be picked up from the airport by our local team. You willI spend the first 1-2 days in Jodhpur, where you get an introduction and will then be driven to Setrawa.

Business Internships in India

The economy of India is the world's sixth largest and with an annual growth of 7% the world's fastest growing economy amongst the bigger nations. Due to the young population's high educational level it can be expected that India will become the third largest economic power in the world within less than the next 10 years. When it comes to the total number of start-up companies, India already by now holds the third place worldwide. The leading Indian economic sectors are the service industry, IT, automobile industry, retail and e-commerce.

The business internship with the research and consulting company will give you detailed insights into different business areas. You will work with various employees of the company and you will also receive one hour of feedback and tutoring per week by Mr. Gupta, the Managing Director.

The minimum age for the internship is 18 years. Interns are expected to be seriously interested to learn as much as possible, and they should be disciplined and willing to work for 8-9 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Internships are possible for interns without any previous experience who are sufficiently motivated, but also for students and graduates. Your tasks will be adjusted to your level of expertise. The internship is not remunerated.

Business Research & Consulting

The company conducts business research on behalf of the Government of India, international organizations and private companies, and produces reports which are used for policy making, feasibility studies, and planning and development of infrastructure and technology.

Examples include an economic assessment of the quality of the public education system of Rajasthan, market analyses for the Austrian and Hungarian chambers of commerce in India, as well as a market analysis and evaluation of the development potential of the Indian food processing industry.

For research and consulting, the company has about 20 full-time employees in Jaipur who have degrees in economics and engineering. In addition, the company has a network of hundreds of freelancers from a wide range of industries who are hired for research projects as needed.

As an intern, you will work as part of the research and consulting team and your tasks usually include collection and analysis of data.

Franchise system for training and education centers

The company has developed a franchise system and is the franchisor of training and education centers in several states of India that are offering short-term courses from various fields such as IT, e-commerce, marketing, and personality development. The courses are targeting university graduates who want to improve their skills and chances on the job market. There are currently around 200 franchisees operating such educational centers. The company manages the educational content and organizational structure of the centers.

As an intern, you can work on administrative tasks related to the operation of the franchise system.

IT Department

The company operates the Saksham Erp department in the Jaipur IT Park, which currently employs 14 programmers who develop IT solutions for customers. The company has also developed a specialised CRM system for the real estate industry, licensing it to companies from the sector.

As a business intern, you will communicate and work with the programmers of Saksham Erp depending on the project. Saksham Erp also offers IT internships in front-end and back-end web development (php, mySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, JQuery).

KPO Park Start-Up Mentoring

The internship company in cooperation with the Technical University of Rajasthan runs a mentoring and incubator program for start-up companies named "KPO Park". The co-working space "Biz Launch" is available in the IT Park of Jaipur. Young entrepreneurs additionally can get advice from Kamtech and professors of the university related to strategic management, technology, marketing and finance.

The program is open to all types of companies, but focuses on renewable energies, technology and IT. One company, for instance, that has joined the program and that is successful now, has developed a low-cost, easy-to-install shock-protector device that prevents power-line accidents in homes and on construction sites that often occur in India due to unprofessional installations.

As an intern, you can gain insights into the various start-ups and work with them on business-related tasks.

Greentech Mega Food Park

The company operates the Greentech Mega Food Park near Kishangar Airport (130km from Jaipur), a modern 360,000m2 / 90 acre industrial facility for processing and packaging vegetables, fruits and grains. There are cold stores, freezers, silos and processing and packaging machines for rent to small and medium-sized food companies. Businesses are also helped to receive funding from the Government of India.

If you are interested, you can visit the Food Park and inform yourself about the resident companies and the underlying business concepts.

Project Details

For students of relevant careers, we can arrange engineering internships at various locations in India, including internships in fields such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering and (to a limited extent) environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, vehicle construction etc. The companies offering the internships include foreign companies with branches in India, as well as Indian companies.

Possible activities include the fields of research and development, system design, user testing, documentation, maintenance, preparing quotations, feasibility studies etc.

Sectors include for instance renewable energies, telecommunication, network engineering, mechanical engineering, as well as major construction projects.

For a job orientation internship, pre-college internship, or if you are doing a technical apprenticeship, internships are possible as a technician, e.g. on a construction site, or doing repairs, maintenance, assembly or installation of technical systems.

Navi Mumbai - City of Contrasts

Mumbai (Bombay) is the economic centre of India and with 14-20 million people, one of the largest megacities in the world. The city is the centre of the finance industry, trade, economy and fashion in India. "Bollywood", by the amount of films produced annually, is the largest film industry in the world. Symbols of wealth can be found at many places in Mumbai; the real estate prices in certain parts of Mumbai are amongst the highest in the world. As Mumbai was bursting at its seams, the city was expanded in 1972 to the east of the Thane Creek estuary, to Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai is seamlessly growing in the north with (Old) Mumbai, and there are numerous bridges connecting the two across Thane Creek. In Navi Mumbai, there are many modern businesses, shopping malls and modern infrastructure. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai has itself 1.5 million inhabitants, with its own attractive city center, Vashi.

The other side of the success story is extreme poverty. Every day, hundreds of job-seeking people from all parts of India move to Mumbai, and in many cases, they settle down in slum areas which spread on all pieces of available land. In 2001, 54.1% of Mumbai's population were slum dwellers. The population density in the slums is oppresive (up to 340,000 people per square kilometre). Under such circumstances, problems such as a lack of hygiene and diseases, environmental destruction, crime, alcoholism and prostitution are the consequence. In Mumbai, we offer volunteering options related to these problems at charitable organizations, and also internships at leading companies of the city.

For most foreigners, Mumbai is probably not a city where they would love stay for the rest of their life - too crowded, noisy, hot and dirty. For a limited period of time however, it is surely exciting to be in Mumbai to understand and learn about the social processes of an emerging country's mega-metropolis.

The main languages of Mumbai are Marathi, Gujurati, Urdu and Hindi. English is spoken as a common language between speakers of the various mother tongues and is considered by the majority as their second language.

Are there fixed start dates for the project, which I must adhere to?

No, you can arrive at any date and you can hence, plan your trip according to your availability and the prices of flights. We can pick you up from Mumbai airport even at night.

Can I stay longer at my accommodation after my volunteering/internship or arrive earlier?

Yes, this is possible and we will give you our best rates. Just let us know when you arrive and leave and we will let you know the costs.

During my stay, can I travel around the country?

Of course, you can do this - most of our participants do so. However, when the travel destination is too far away, it may not be possible over a weekend; these, we would recommend you keep for before the projects begins or after the completion. You could even plan these out during holidays. Even with an internship visa, it is possible to travel around India.

When is the rainy season and can I travel to India during this time?

The monsoon begins in early June in Kerala, Mumbai, in mid-June and the Himalayan region, early to mid-July and ends in September. The Thar Desert in Rajasthan (location Setrawa), barely gets rain during the monsoon and Jodhpur is rather dry.

During the monsoon, it usually rains heavily for several hours every day. As a result, there are often floods in the streets of the cities, because the drains cannot absorb the amounts of water. An internship or volunteering is possible during the monsoon, and the only nuisance will probably be wet clothes and shoes, which are often difficult to dry because of the high humidity. You might want to carry a few extra shoes and a change of clothes with you (or buy them locally). You can even buy an umbrella or a raincoat locally. An advantage to traveling during the monsoon, is that the fares are cheaper and accommodation during the off season is cheaper.

Can I travel to India as a young woman alone? The media constantly reports of rape - how high is the risk?

For decades, India has been a safe country for women and now the impression, given by the media, is that the number of rapes has skyrocketed and India is unsafe for women. More cases are coming into light now, as women previously would not speak about rape, but are now empowered to do so. Compared to the number of cases in relation to the huge population of India (almost twice as many as the whole of Europe), even if projections of unreported cases are included, there is much less rape than in many other countries. There are 2 cases that happen per 100,000 inhabitants in India (in comparison: Central Europe: 8.1 cases; 14.7 cases in Latin America; 28.6 cases per 100,000 population in the US).

Of course you have to be careful as a woman, as far as the style of dressing and dealing with local men are concerned. In schools, boys and girls are often strictly separated and many young men have no experience in dealing with women who are not their own mother or sisters; your behavior, based on dealing with Western men, might be misinterpreted as “easy” or “loose” behaviour.

Will I be the only volunteer/intern in the project or in Mumbai?

The total number of participants that participate simultaneously with an organization depends on the size and activity of the organization and responsibilities of volunteers/interns. We try to avoid too many volunteers/interns in an organization at the same time. It may be that you are alone in your work site, but usually there are, throughout the year, other participants in Mumbai, who you can meet in your spare time, if you desire so.

What vaccinations do I need?

Where will I live?

Does my accommodation have internet facilities?

In the shared accommodations, there is no wifi, but you access internet at a cafe or on your smartphone or using a mobile internet stick. The registration of the modem, however, is very complex and not possible in Mumbai, if you do not have a permanent residence. Our tutor will help you with the paperwork.

How can I do my laundry?

There are several laundromats in Navi Mumbai, where the clothes are washed by hand and neatly ironed. There is a price per garment (fixed price for trousers, tops, towels, underwear, etc.), and it will be best if you negotiate a good rate for the clothes, especially if you have regular amounts of laundry. We advise you to ask around for the best laundromat in your area.

Can I cook in the accommodation?

Yes, you can cook at your accommodations.

I am a vegetarian. Can I get vegetarian food?

Yes, India is a paradise for vegetarians. Almost all restaurants are clearly marked, whether they are vegetarian ("Veg") or not ("Non-Veg"), and there are separate menus. About 40% of Indians are vegetarians.

What language skills do I need?

You should be able to understand and make yourself understood in English.

Architecture Internship in Navi Mumbai

We organise internships with a leading architectural company in Navi Mumbai for students and graduates of architecture, interior design, 3D visualisation, civil engineering, and communications (PR/media).

This placement (and other architecture internships in India) is possible as a Remote / Online internship from home! Tasks for Online Interns: Making architectural drawings, preparing project presentations and visualisations, preparing offers, researching costs for project budgets. Services include urban design, building design, landscape design, interiour design, statutory approvals, project planning & support, project management, and green building design & certification.

The company has designed several iconic projects in India including Skywalks, Signature Tower, IGBC pre-certified Green Homes Orchid Villas and Yah Raj Film Studios. There is focus on media facilities including cinemas, films studios, record studios, with projects implemented in cities including London, Istanbul, Kiev, Moscow and Doha, but also the company has designed many commercial, healthcare, retail, educational, institutional, hospitality and residential venues. How can you get involved?

Internships and employment opportunities exist for students and professionals.

Architecture and interior design interns work under the guidance of the Architect or Project Team Leader and prepare, develop and edit drawing, models, images and other documents related to the design. They should be self motivated and able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks and in response to directions/ instructions. They should have the ability to use some of the following software: Autodesk REVIT, Sketch Up, Auto Cad, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Interns in the field of civil engineering read structural drawings and assist with the coordination of on-site development based on the drawings, with preparation of bills of quantities based on structural drawings, and with the preparation of tender documents. Desirable software skills include Auto CAD, Primavera, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.

Interns in the field of 3D Visualisation prepare rendered still images and walk-throughs for architectural and interior design projects. They should be comfortable with software such as 3DSMax, Sketch Up, Photoshop, Adobe Flash CS4, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver CS4, Premier Pro, Combustion, Eye on Fusion, After Effect and programmes like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

In Navi Mumbai, you can choose between accommodation of different standards:

Most popular! - This is the choice of most of our participants. You live in a shared flat with other participants and/or young Indians.

Comfort+ - For those who need more comfort: Accommodation in a hotel

Shared Accommodation

In Navi Mumbai, most of our participants live in apartments that they share with other participants or young Indians. The bedrooms are usually shared with 2-3 participants of the same sex. In Navi Mumbai, we use various accommodations, depending on the availability and your volunteering/internship location. Please understand that we can usually not tell you long in advance which accommodation you will be staying at. The reason is simply that our participants on site sometimes decide to stay longer and we need some flexibity to satisfy all accommodation needs. For all apartments please bring your own bed sheets and towels.

Apartment in Sanpada

The apartment is located on the 7th floor of a residential building in Sanpada (Navi Mumbai). Sanpada is a very central residential district of the Indian upper middle class. In just 10 walking minutes you can reach Vashi Train Station and the shopping centers "Inorbit Mall", "Centre One" and “Raghulela“. The "Vashi Plaza" with many shops is about 10 more walking minutes away. From Vashi station, you can take a train to other stations in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.

In the immediate surroundings of the building there are several small shops with food and everyday supplies, small local restaurants, which also have a delivery service in the neighborhood, a pharmacy, a laundry service and a well-equipped gym.

The apartment has a passage bedroom with ceiling fan, another bedroom with ceiling fan and air conditioning, a kitchen, bathroom and a separate toilet. The bathroom has a shower with water heater and sink. The kitchen has a refrigerator, a cooking plate, a water cooker and a sink. 1-3 people can live in this apartment.

The building has 7 floors each with 2 apartments in 4 separate wings (in total 56 apartments), in the immediate vicinity there are other similar apartment buildings.

The building is guarded by security personnel and has an elevator in each wing.

Mahima Apartment

In cooperation with our partner Mahima International School that we also arrange internships and volunteer assignments with, we organize accommodation at an apartment of good standard in Koparkhairane. You would share the apartment with up to 5 Indian girls aged 8-15 years and other participants of our World Unite! programs. The girls are usually from socially disadvantaged families and receive free accommodation and schooling from Mahima. You can spend time with the Indian girls, but you don't have to! The apartment can accommodate 1-3 World Unite! participants in addition to the Indian girls.

There are two separate bedrooms for participants of our programs (one of which is a walkthrough room with access to the bathroom/toilet). Each room has a ceiling fan. There is a washing machine, a kitchen, a common room, and security personnel.

In the immediate neighborhood of the building there are several small shops with food and everyday supplies, small local restaurants etc. Also some larger shopping centers can be reached in just a few minutes by autorickshaw.

Apartment in Kalamboli

The apartment in Kalamboli is located on the 14th floor of a residential building and is equipped with modern facilities. There is a common room with a bed couch, which is also used as a walkthrough bedroom, a bathroom, a toilet and two other bedrooms. In this shared apartment, 1-5 participants can be accommodated simultaneously.

The apartment also has a kitchen and a balcony.

The building has security personnel and an elevator. In the immediate vicinity there are other similar apartment buildings.
