Day 7
Full day tour! The day starts with a visit of the Jozani Forest National Park, which is famous for its endemic Red Colobus Monkeys. Besides some colonies of monkeys, you can see the impressive plants and trees of this tropical rainforest and you can have a stroll through the mangrove area. After this, we will drive to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, East Africa’s largest covered space for butterflies, which is a project of sustainable tourism. As the butterflies only live for a few weeks, the centre is in constant need of new butterflies. These are bred by the villagers of the nearby village under the guidance of a biologist named Pete and sold to the butterfly centre.
Afterwards, we visit the handcraft project “MOTO”, where we will first have lunch. Then, we will see how a women’s cooperative produces wickerwork and braided objects. They also weave Kikoi fabrics that they tint, making use of solar technology. You can even try out everything yourself! Another highlight is a visit to the Zanzibar Turtle and Tortoise Land. It is a small reptile zoo, which is run by a farmers' cooperative. We support the farmers' cooperative in sustainable tourism development. You return to your accommodation in the late afternoon.

Day 8
The second week, you can either continue to spend in the city, or in Kitogani, or in Matemwe. Kitogani is a farming and fishing village in the south of Zanzibar, where little has changed in the last hundreds of years. You will find a piece of original Zanzibar, which was hardly influenced by tourism and modern development. You can choose between accommodation on full board with a local host family of simple standards or at our Mother Nature Forest Camp. Matemwe, in the northeast of Zanzibar, however, is a beach resort with tourism. In Matemwe you can experience Zanzibar in both its rural life in the village, as well as aspects of beach tourism. In Matemwe, you live at the Mother Nature Camp on full board.
