b) Overview over other costs (Volunteering and Internships)
We provide you with this information so you can calculate the total costs for your stay in Tanzania. The following costs are to be paid at your destination to the respective people offering their services (e.g. landlord). All costs stated are approximated and we cannot guarantee them. We can give you the exact costs for rent and visa as soon as we know your activity, dates, duration and location of stay. Please take into consideration that some volunteering positions and internships include accommodation, whereas others don't. Please check the info boxes below each project description.
• Return travel from central Europe € 600-1200 (you book your flight yourself and we can give you some advice)
• Accommodation & meals, selected by us as part of the trouble-free package. We can confirm exact costs and availability of accommodation options around 2 months prior to your stay.
Note: The rates given for Voluntourism, Voluntourism Hopper & World Learner include accommodation and in many cases meals.
Moshi: Option1: Accommodation with a local family, good standard* incl. breakfast and dinner approx. 300 USD per month. Option 2: Alternatively, single room in a house/flat shared with other foreign volunteers approx. 150-200 USD per month (cheaper per person if 2 people share one room). Option 3: Simple standard* accommodation with local family incl. simple food ca. 200-250 USD/months or without food ca. 50 USD/month.
Karatu: Single room in a shared house with other volunteers, good standard* without food around 150 USD per month.
Zanzibar: Single room in a house/flat of good standard* shared with other other foreign volunteers around 200 USD/month; Alternatively, staying with a family good standard* incl. food around 420 USD/month.
In rural areas it is most likely that there is only simple standard accommodation available at cheap costs.
*Good standard means that you will have a single room and there will be a shower and Western water toilet inside the house. Shower & toilet must be shared with other family members (in the case of family accommodation) or with other volunteers (in the case of shared houses/apartments). There will be a kitchen with funcional equipment. Sometimes there is also a living room which might have TV as well as washing machine. However please note that even for "good standard" you cannot expect the high standards known from Europe or North America concerning sanitary installations and structure of the building.
* Simple standard means that you might have to share your room with other foreign volunteers or with other local family members (children), that the house will not have shower and Western toilet, but instead there will be a tap outside the house from where you must collect water with a bucket to wash yourself and there will be a privy outside which will have to be shared with people of the surrounding houses.
If you have higher expectations concerning accommodation you can also stay at a tourist hotel. As we are a tour operator, we might offer you reduced rates. Please let us know if you are interested in this option.
If meals are not included in you accommodation, eating at a medium category local restaurant is approx. US-$ 2-4 per meal and approx. for a good tourist restaurant around 6-10 US-$. If you cook yourself (if kitchen is available) costs for food will be around 70-120 € per month.
• Travel health insurance, max. € 30 per month
• Visa and residence permit for EU citizens and most other nationalities approx. US-$ 150-170; for US and Canada citizens US$ 250-270 (please note that these costs can change at any moment without prior notice).
For Voluntourism and Voluntourism Hopper you will only need a regular tourist visa (US$ 50 for EU citizens, US$ 100 for US citizens)
• Possibly costs for vaccinations if they are not covered by your healthcare insurance
• Local transport max. 20 €/month
• Personal expenses
Using the Yahoo! currency converter you can convert US-$ to € and to your domestic currency.
