Primary school in Tamra

The primary school of Tamra, called „Al Razi“, is attended by children aged 7 to 12. In total, the school has 500 pupils and the maximum class size doesn't exceed 35 children.

 

Taught subjects are Maths, English as a foreign language, Arabic, Hebrew, sports, history, sciences, music, computer training, religion, drama and agriculture. The language of teaching is Arabic (with the exception of English and Hebrew language courses), that means you as a volunteer are most likely going to participate in giving English lessons and in supporting the local English teacher. Additionally it is possible to assist in sports lessons, without having knowledge of Arabic language.

 

The school is currently constructing an alternative learning center, financed by a generous British donation. The center is meant for teaching and learning with methods, alternative to the normal school practices, such as group work and play.

 

As a volunteer/intern you can assist in further tasks, depending on your previous experience. For instance, you can assist in developing innovative concepts for the new alternative learning center, participate in the elaboration of teaching materials, and simultaneously you can assist the female headmaster (who is just 35 years old and hence the youngest headmaster in whole Israel) in general management issues. She will make a personal plan of activity for your, depending on your interests, skills and duration of stay. 

 

School holidays are from 1st July till 1st September, from the 23rd of December till 10th of January and 23rd of March till 10th of April.
