Do you want to spend time with children on a farm in Ireland and, at the same time, improve your English language skills? In rural Ireland, you can be an Au Pair with an Irish farmer family. This is even possible for short durations starting from 4 weeks. You will receive free accommodation and meals from your Irish Au Pair family.
Description

Live on a farm with an Irish family as an Au Pair

Ireland is known for its green landscapes with historic castles as well as the hospitality, humor, and good nature of the Irish. The mild, humid climate favors the keeping of sheep and cattle on the evergreen pastures.

You will live on a farm in Ireland where you will mainly deal with the farmers' children and help around the house. The family members are always very busy working with the farm animals such as sheep, cattle, and horses, and other farm work. As an Au Pair in Ireland, you are an important support for the family. In return for your help, you will receive free board and lodging and be integrated into the Irish family.

If you are a citizen of the UK, EU, or EEA, you don't need a visa to join this program. Also, citizens of the US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UAE (and many other nationalities, please check details below in the "Visa" slider) can join for up to 3 months. If you can get a Working Holiday visa for Ireland you can stay longer.

Your tasks with Irish kids

Your main responsibility as an Au Pair in Ireland is taking care of the children. Depending on the childrens age, you will help them get up, get dressed, prepare meals, take the children to school or kindergarten, help with their homework, play inside and outside, do handicrafts and read books to them, plan activities, and take care of bathing them and/or bringing them to bed.

Au Pairs in Ireland also help with household chores, for example, cooking and preparing meals, doing dishes and tidying up the kitchen, doing laundry, shopping, and tidying up the children's toys. As an Au Pair, you are a full family member for the duration of your stay, and thus you'll be involved in almost everything that needs to be done in the household. If you join this Au Pair program, you can also participate in farm work if you wish, however this will not be your main focus. Your everyday work in the family and on the farm will be very diverse.

As an Au Pair in Ireland, you will not only gain experience abroad and improve your English language skills, but you will also learn how to manage a household, become more independent, and learn to take on responsibility. These are skills that look good on your résumé and are valuable for your personal and professional development.

The everyday life as an Au Pair

The placements are available all year round. You will work 5 days a week for about 40-45 hours and have 2 days off a week. Since there is always a lot to do on farms, your days off do not necessarily fall on the weekends. If you work on the weekends, you will have days off during the week instead.

The exact working hours depend on the family activities and can vary! You should be flexible and have a hands-on mentality. Also, you should not mind getting up early.

FAQs

How does the booking and matching process work?

Once you have booked we will look for an Irish family for you. As soon as we have found a family, you will receive a placement advice from us, including a family profile and contact details. You can communicate directly with the family yourself and ask them questions and decide whether to accept the family. If you accept the family, you sign the placement advice. If there is an understandable reason not to accept the family, we will look for other families and send you a new placement advice.

Who can join

Due to Irish Labor Laws, participation is only open to participants who are enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, school, training, or college at the time of their stay in Ireland. There needs to be a relation between the Au Pair stay and your future professional plans.

Participation is only possible for citizens who don't need a visa for Ireland for their planned duration of stay (e.g., citizens of the EU and EAA, USA, Australia, etc., please see the full list in the slider "visa") or who can arrange a visa on their own (e.g., Working Holiday Visa). Please note that Ireland is not part of the Schengen countries.

No knowledge or previous work experience is required.

You should have fun spending time with children. If you have already worked, volunteered, or done an internship as a babysitter, in a kindergarten/pre-school, youth club, or in a social institution, or if you have taken care of your own siblings, this is a big plus. To give us a better idea of yourself and to match you in the best way possible with a family, please let us know about your previous experiences. However, having had previous experiences with children is not mandatory.

Furthermore, you should enjoy living on a farm in a rural area, where there may not be all the conveniences and entertainment options of a big city.
