Ecuador
The Amazon rainforest in Ecuador is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity. This region, often referred to as the "lungs of the Earth," houses an immense variety of plant and animal species, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world. Ecuador's Amazon is home to more than 1,000 species of birds, 1,500 species of butterflies, and countless mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Beyond its ecological significance, the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador is also culturally rich, inhabited by numerous indigenous communities such as the Huaorani, Shuar, and Kichwa.
We have one program in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador dealing with Wildlife Rehabilitation. You will stay in a simple wooden jungle hut propped up on stilts, surrounded by the Amazon rainforest.
Accommodation in Ecuador
Jungle Huts for Volunteers
Accommodation for volunteers is in simple wooden jungle huts, propped up on stilts, offering dormitory accommodation surrounded by the Amazon rainforest, including a kitchen and a lounge. There are Western toilets and showers. The kitchen is equipped with basic utensils such as pots, pans, plates, cups, cutlery, etc. Water is available, but electricity is only available in the evenings when a generator is switched on for you to charge your electronics. Otherwise, candles are used, with stocks maintained in the houses. We recommend you carry a flashlight with you. There is a fire pit for bonfires and hammocks for you to relax in at the end of the day.
