Name: Claudia Eberlein
Location: Berlin
Role with World Unite!: Coordinator Working Holiday in Berlin
Nationality: German
Languages: English, German
Claudia is Working Holiday coordinator in Berlin and is doing the social leisure activities with program participants. She has two university degrees, one as a communications designer and another one as an arts and design teacher.
What I enjoy most about working at World Unite!: I’ve only just started working for World Unite!, but I’m really excited about introducing Berlin's rich social, cultural, natural and technological world to the participants.
Places I find most enjoyable to spend my leisure at: Tiergarten Park and Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) for nature. HKW (Haus der Kulturen der Welt / House of World Cultures), Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berliner Festspiele, Philharmonie and Tempodrom for fantastic culture, art and music. All those places also feature great architecture!
Favourite local food: Berlin has become very multicultural in terms of food and I love places like Markthalle 9 in Kreuzberg with all its different and international stalls and restaurants. My favourite restaurants are the Michelberger Restaurant (because of its use of organic, regional produce), Osman’s Töchter (amazing Turkish food) and Du Bonheur (best French pastries outside of Paris).
What should participants not miss: Berlin’s fantastic art, club and music scene, its historic sites (particularly from the Cold War era) and swimming in the many lakes that can be found at the outskirts of town and surrounding countryside. Watch out for events such as the bike demonstration Critical Mass, interesting art and environmental fairs, music and theatre festivals as well as the many events and venues for the digital world (e.g. Transmediale, Futurium).
Hobbies: I enjoy exploring Berlin’s urban nature and using it as inspiration for my art work. I’m also a tour guide for nature tours through Tiergarten park. I think that Berlin has Germany’s most vibrant arts and music scene, so that’s a big plus for me.
