Remote Internship

A remote internship with the Coalition Against Racism in Israel offers the opportunity to gain insight into the complexity of the political situation in Israel and Palestine, understanding the backgrounds, positions, interests, and desires of various opinion groups. We arrange internships and volunteering in the fields of communication and public relations, human rights work, politics, and sociology.
Description

Remote Internship with the Coalition Against Racism in Israel

In Israel, around 40 NGOs have formed a network working nationwide in the areas of human rights and anti-racism, advocating for the rights and interests of minorities and disadvantaged people in Israel. Your remote internship will be with one of these 40 NGOs.

Disadvantaged groups in Israel include not only Palestinian Arabs but also Ethiopian Jews, Mizrahi Jews (Jews from the Middle East and North Africa), Russian-speaking immigrants, and African migrants. Human rights organizations advocating for the rights of women, children, and people with special needs are part of the network, too.

The organizations aim to raise awareness among civil society and politicians about issues arising from discrimination.

The NGOs particularly focus on:

  • The partial legitimization of racism due to the absence of an adequate framework for protecting minority rights
  • Racial profiling and violations of personal freedom in public spaces
  • Incitement against minorities and ethnic groups by political and religious leaders, public figures, and the media
  • Race-related violence
  • The persistence of negative stereotypes

Network member organizations analyze, document, and publish cases of racism by political and religious leaders, the media, and companies. Legal action is taken whenever possible. The NGOs also engage in lobbying, organize events, media campaigns, and training programs.

About your remote internship

For this remote internship, you will not travel to Israel but you will work online from home. You will have an experienced internship supervisor, who is a leading member of the NGO assigned to you. Your supervisor will communicate with you online at least twice a week for about an hour, assigning tasks and providing qualified feedback on your work. You can choose your weekly working hours (6-40 hours), and tasks will be adjusted accordingly. You can also be relatively flexible about your working hours.

You will read and analyze texts, reports, and statistics, and write articles for media publication. You will also participate in networking among member organizations and other stakeholders, assist in organizing campaigns, events, and seminars, and, depending on your language skills, help with translations (e.g., Arabic-English, English-Arabic, English-Russian, etc.).

This internship will deepen your understanding of the political situation and societies in Israel and the Middle East, as well as anti-racism work in general. You will gain professional experience in lobbying, PR, and communication. Although you will work remotely from home, you will enhance your intercultural skills by collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds. Your tasks will also improve your analytical and writing skills.

The online internship can be conducted in English or, if you prefer, in the language of your chosen country (in this case, Hebrew or Arabic).
