Type of program

Internship

We arrange hotel internships in South Africa. Many hotels are smaller, owner-managed facilities of high boutique-style standards in the winelands around Cape Town. The internships are suitable for students who need them for university/vocational school credit, and for anyone wishing to gain experience in the hotel and tourism industry. The hotels usually, but not always, provide free accommodation and food.
Description

Why doing a hotel internship in South Africa?

South Africa is a popular and trendy travel destination. Breathtaking landscapes, eclectic cultural and historical attractions, and friendly residents attract travelers from all over the world to the southernmost country on the African continent. Domestic tourism and the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Events) are also well developed.

During a hotel internship in South Africa, you will not only get to know this fascinating country firsthand, but you will also gain valuable experience in the hotel and tourism sector. You will work together with the team of a hotel that receives guests from all over the world, where, besides professional skills, you can also develop your intercultural ones.

How's does it work?

We organize hotel internships in hotels of various standards and sizes in South Africa. In smaller hotels, you are usually a generalist and get insights into all areas of hotel operations. In larger hotels, work is more department-specific.

Please fill out an inquiry via this page and email us your CV in English with a photo (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and let us know what is important to you regarding the internship as well as your desired timeframe. This is completely non-binding and free of charge for you. After a few days, we will suggest a specific hotel that would take you and inform you about the exact conditions for your internship. In some cases, there may be an online interview. You then decide whether you want to accept the internship. You incur no obligations beforehand.

Here are some examples of hotels where we offer internships:

5-star boutique hotel in Franschhoek

This 5-star, 12-suite boutique hotel offers world-class service at an elegant historic country estate and winery in Franschhoek. The winery produces its own wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Pinotage, which can be tasted at the hotel. The hotel also organizes weddings in the spacious garden, which has its own chapel, and conferences.

An internship is possible between the months of September and April. About 30% of your tasks are in the office (planning and preparation, handling bookings, communications, social media marketing) and 70% are service tasks such as guest support, check-in/check-out, breakfast preparation, planning, and providing services at weddings and conferences. You will work 45 hours/week on 5 days/week, which may include weekends. Accommodation is provided at the hotel, and you also receive pocket money.

5-star boutique hotel in Camps Bay

The hotel welcomes guests with an outdoor pool and views of the Atlantic Ocean in Camps Bay. The rooms are equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV, a Blu-ray player, and a DVD player. Some rooms feature a cozy seating area and a terrace or balcony. The rooms also offer a private bathroom with a bathtub, bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary toiletries.

The internship should last 2-5 months, during which you will work for 8 hours a day for 5 days a week in the areas of breakfast, administration, check-in, and front desk. You will receive free accommodation, beverages, and use of a car.

Medium Standard Guest House

Located on the hillside of Table Mountain, the Medium Standard Guest House offers B&B and self-catering apartments.

As an intern, you can expect an open and friendly working atmosphere and varied work. You can learn about all the work needed to run such a guesthouse, including guest relations, check-in/check-out, answering inquiries and handling bookings, administrative tasks, supervision of the breakfast service, handling and assisting with tours and car rental bookings, stock-keeping, marketing, housekeeping, and planning and supervising staff.

5-star boutique hotel in the Constantia Valley

This 5-star boutique hotel with 21 exquisite rooms is located in the Constantia Valley, a suburb of Cape Town known for its viniculture. It is a luxurious country house with a large garden. The elegant restaurant offers premium local wines, fine dining, and homemade truffles.
