During an English-speaking management internship at a nonprofit organization in Lisbon, you will have the opportunity to learn how such an organization is managed, led and administered. You can apply your administrative skills in a practical setting while supporting a charitable cause.

Description

Management Internship at a Nonprofit Organisation in Lisbon, Portugal

The internship offers students and graduates in relevant fields the opportunity to enhance their skills in managing non-profit organizations. However, participants aged 16 and older with no prior experience are also welcome. The nonprofit organizations involved operate in areas such as animal welfare, food rescue, youth work, social services, and environmental conservation. Based on the information you provide, we will suggest an organization where you can complete your internship. Your specific tasks will depend on the selected dates and the current needs of the supported nonprofits at that time. During the internship, you will be assigned a qualified supervisor who will guide you. You will typically work 5 - 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with the exact daily schedule coordinated with the hosting organization.

Your tasks as an intern

Your responsibilities will vary based on your expertise. During the internship, you will learn to identify and evaluate business opportunities, developing strategic thinking skills essential for driving growth and innovation in nonprofit organizations. You will gain experience in building connections with partners and clients, practicing product and service presentations, and strengthening your ability to maintain lasting relationships.

You will contribute to business projects and general office management, developing project management skills that will help you plan and oversee tasks in the nonprofit sector.

Your communication skills will be enhanced through participation in internal and external communication tasks, as well as translations within an international environment. You will conduct market research, improving your analytical skills to identify market trends and opportunities and make informed business decisions.

You will gain insights into the application of digital media, for example, by updating websites and conducting SEO analyses to improve their online visibility. By planning and organizing events such as fundraising campaigns, you will develop event management skills and support the mission of the nonprofit organization. Additionally, you will acquire a broad range of administrative skills, providing you with an understanding of the daily operations of a nonprofit organization. You will also gain valuable experience in adapting business practices to different cultural contexts.

At the end of the internship, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Who can join

The internship is open to high school students aged 16 and above, as well as university/college students and graduates in business administration, media studies, marketing and related fields.

Your tasks and the level of difficulty will be tailored to match your knowledge and skills.

You will need to submit your resume, highlighting your relevant skills. Additionally, after registration, there will be an online meeting to discuss your expectations. Based on this, we will find a suitable internship placement for you.

Program start

Arrival at Lisbon International Airport (LIS) should be scheduled on a Sunday between 9 AM and 9 PM. The internship begins on the following Monday.

Getting there

You will book a flight to Lisbon Airport (LIS - Humberto Delgado Airport) and share your flight details with us. Please ensure that your flight is scheduled to arrive on a Sunday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Arrivals outside this time frame will incur an additional pickup fee.

Visa

The following citizens can join the program without any visa:

  • Citizens of the European Union and EEA (incl. Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein)

Accommodation Options

Beach House in Estoril, near Lisbon

You will stay in the coastal town of Estoril, an upscale suburb of Lisbon popular among locals for weekend or after-work beach outings. The train journey from Estoril to the Torre de Belém in Lisbon takes just over half an hour.

Our accommodation, the Beach House in Estoril, is only 400 meters from the beautiful Poca Beach and the seaside promenade lined with restaurants, ice cream stands, souvenir shops, and bars. This promenade stretches along the coast and is a year-round favorite for joggers, walkers, cyclists, and sunbathers. Further along, you’ll find the beaches Azarujinha and Tamariz. The sophisticated beach resort of Cascais is right next to Estoril.

The Beach House offers a welcoming atmosphere with a well-maintained garden featuring a small pool and cozy common areas, including a spacious lounge and a sunny terrace.

Standard accommodation is in shared dormitories, with mixed dorms or female-only dorms available upon request. For an additional fee, you can upgrade to a double room. Fresh bedding is provided.

A fully equipped communal kitchen is available at all times, and the fast, free Wi-Fi ensures you stay connected.

Three buffet-style meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided seven days a week, with an emphasis on sustainability. Vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free meals are available upon request.

The Beach House is approximately 30 km from Lisbon International Airport.
