Social Work, Nursing, and Physiotherapy in Malta
We work with a large number of public, religious, as well as NGO and private-run institutions in Malta that offer services in the fields of healthcare and social work. These include:
- Daycare for children with autism
- Nursing homes and day centers for the elderly
- Social work organizations
- Physiotherapy clinics
- Dental care (minimum duration of 8 weeks)
- Nutrition counseling & wellness
- Pharmacy
Example: Nursing Home in Malta
The nursing home offers the following services:
- Long-term care accommodation for dementia patients
- Short-term care accommodation for individuals recovering from major surgical procedures
- Respite care care accommodation for people who usually live with family members who care for them, but who are temporarily unable to do so—for example, due to illness or needing a break
- Palliative care
The facility is staffed by doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a nutritionist, and a podologist.
Internships in nursing, physiotherapy, and social work are possible at this facility. The focus of your tasks will be adapted to your specific field.
What are your tasks?
As an intern, you will accompany a professional in your placement and assist them in their daily work. The exact tasks vary depending on the institution, but can generally be summarized as:
- Supporting therapeutic measures
- Communication, interaction, and leisure activities with the beneficiaries of the institutions - addressing their needs and helping them achieve their goals
- In the nursing area: feeding, bathing, dressing, always as part of a team of 3 people
- Coordination with different professionals
- Administrative tasks, e.g., maintaining patient records
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines
You are generally expected to intern full-time (40 hours/week) at your placement. You may also be assigned to join on weekends and would receive weekdays off in compensation.
What qualifications are needed?
An intermediate level of English (B1) is usually required. No further qualifications are necessary. For legal reasons, we can only offer placements in Malta to citizens of the EU and the EEA. Supervised internships for university credit are possible.
For internships in childcare and elderly care, police clearance certificates are required.
Booking Process
If you are flexible and are okay with us selecting an internship placement within the internship category you have chosen, you can book this program directly online on this page.
After your booking, please send us your CV/resume in English by email to
Alternatively, you can first send an inquiry and let us know your preferences, as well as, in the case of a mandatory internship, the requirements of your school or university (e.g., regarding tasks, hours, or supervision). We can then either confirm whether such an internship is available or, in some cases (but not always), already name a specific internship company/organisation. You would book only if you choose to accept the internship.
In both cases, you can secure your spot with a deposit of 100 EUR/USD. You pay the remaining amount only one month before the program starts.
Since the online booking of the accommodation can be a bit tricky due to different weekly rates depending on the season, we are happy to handle the exact calculation per day of stay for you. After letting us know your flight details and exact travel dates, you can then manually book the accommodation. We would then send you an invoice and a payment link.
