St. Wilfred's School in Jaipur
St. Wilfred’s School in Jaipur is part of a school group with a total of 13 branches across India. It offers Middle School Grades VI–VIII and High School Grades IX–XII (with students typically aged 12–18).
The school follows the curriculum of the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education, which includes subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Hindi, a third language (French), and Art. It prepares students for the CBSE final examination, which qualifies them for university studies. In addition to academic education, the school places great emphasis on character development and social awareness.
The school has approximately 1,300 students, with a student-teacher ratio of 1:20.
The school infrastructure includes smart classrooms, well-equipped laboratories for Computer Science, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, as well as a library, sports facilities, music rooms, and art & craft areas. Notably, the school has its own swimming pool and an outdoor sports field. The sports program includes yoga, cricket, badminton, football, basketball, volleyball, chess, billiards, table tennis, and boxing. Additionally, the school offers vocal and instrumental music lessons.
Education in India is seen as the most important path to social advancement. Many parents place their children under high academic pressure to secure top positions in exams and competitions.
The students who attend a private English-medium middle and high school like St. Wilfred’s generally come from upper-middle-class families. These families prioritize high-quality education, particularly in English, as it is considered key to better career opportunities and international recognition. Many students are from families where at least one parent holds an academic degree or a specialized professional qualification. Others are children of businesspeople, government officials, or senior employees, who can afford private school fees and see quality education as essential for their children's future success.
In recent years, however, an increasing number of emerging lower and middle-middle-class families have also started sending their children to private English schools. These parents invest a significant portion of their income in their children’s education to provide them with better future prospects.
