Center for Children with Special Needs
A nonprofit organization operates a support center in Jaipur, which is attended daily by around 170 children, adolescents, and young adults aged 5 to 25 years and employs 37 permanent staff members. The center serves individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), intellectual disabilities (ID), Down syndrome (DS), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other multiple disabilities.
The services offered at the center include:
Special Education
The special education center provides holistic and individually tailored support for over 100 students, including those enrolled in the vocational training center. The main goal of the program is to create an environment that optimally enhances each individual’s learning abilities, both academically and functionally. This enables students to reach their full potential and become active members of society. Teaching methods include sensory integration, speech and behavioral therapy, and targeted remedial instruction, all tailored to the specific needs of each child.
Lessons are conducted with a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:10 to ensure that each child receives the necessary attention and support. Additionally, parents are actively involved in the educational process to ensure that children receive the required support and care at home.
Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Behavioral Therapy
The therapy department offers specialized therapeutic treatments for children with disabilities to improve their physical, cognitive, and linguistic abilities. This includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and behavioral therapy. Through individually tailored therapy plans, children can strengthen their motor skills, expand their communication abilities, and enhance their independence in daily life. The center works closely with teachers and parents to continuously monitor the children's progress and support their development as effectively as possible.
Vocational Training
The vocational training department provides adolescents and young adults with disabilities with hands-on training to promote their independence and employability. It serves as a bridge for a smooth transition from school to working life, considering the individual skills, interests, and physical and mental capacities of participants.
The training center is divided into several specialized departments, including a foundation department that teaches skills necessary for any job in the open labor market, a kitchen department, a sewing department, a handicrafts department, and a department focused on technical and commercial skills.
In addition to professional training, great emphasis is placed on the development of social and communication skills to facilitate entry into the workforce. The goal is to equip participants with the necessary skills to either find employment or start their own small business.
Sports Activities
The center organizes a wide range of sports activities specifically designed for children and adolescents with disabilities. Sports play a crucial role in their physical and emotional development and help improve coordination, mobility, and self-confidence. The organization regularly participates in national and international competitions for athletes with special needs, promoting not only the children's physical fitness but also their team spirit and motivation. The center offers sports such as athletics, swimming, basketball, and table tennis, encouraging children to reach their full potential.
Training for Parents and Caregivers
The training program is aimed at parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and provides them with skills to best support their children. The courses cover strategies for promoting independence, communication, motor skills, and social abilities. Parents learn how to create a structured and supportive environment at home. They are also informed about their rights and government support programs to improve their children’s quality of life.
