Eternal Hospital
Eternal Hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is the city's leading private hospital and is known for its high medical standards. It is the only hospital in Rajasthan accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), one of the highest international quality standards in healthcare. Across India, only six hospitals have this certification. Additionally, the hospital is recognized by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) as well as the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). There is also a medical collaboration with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA, which facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The hospital is private, with higher treatment costs than public institutions. However, prices remain affordable for many people from the Indian middle class, especially those who expect a high level of care. The hospital treats many patients with health insurance, including government employees and company staff.
Every day, around 1,500 outpatients are treated at Eternal Hospital. Additionally, the hospital handles 100 to 150 emergency cases per day. The hospital has 225 beds in the intensive care unit, regular multi-bed wards, semi-private rooms, private rooms, as well as super deluxe rooms and suites.
The hospital has several specialized medical centers, including the Cardiology Center, Neurology Center, Orthopedic and Mobility Center, Gastroenterology Center, as well as Intensive Care and Anesthesia Medicine.
The physiotherapy department at Eternal Hospital is among the leading institutions in India. It offers treatments in the fields of sports injuries, neurological rehabilitation, combination therapies, occupational therapy, and ultrasound therapy. The department is equipped with modern devices such as BTL, Chattanooga, and US-based therapy modules.
The full list of the hospital's specialties includes anesthesiology, bariatric surgery, blood bank, cardiac surgery, cardiology, critical care, dentistry, dietetics, emergency and trauma services, endocrinology & diabetes, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), gastroenterology, general & laparoscopic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, gynecology & obstetrics, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and joint replacement, pediatrics, pathology and microbiology, physiotherapy, plastic surgery, pulmonology, radiology, rheumatology & clinical immunology.
Tagore Hospital
Tagore Hospital is a private hospital in Jaipur that offers higher standards than public hospitals but is still affordable for middle-class patients. It also treats many patients covered by the state healthcare system, such as government employees and corporate staff.
The hospital's specialties include general medicine, internal medicine, orthopedics, gynecology & obstetrics, pediatrics, surgery, urology, ENT, ophthalmology, neurology, plastic surgery, dermatology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, cardiology, dentistry, and physiotherapy. The hospital has an intensive care unit (ICU) & neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), laboratory & diagnostics, CT scan & digital X-ray, a 24-hour pharmacy, as well as a 24-hour emergency department & ambulance service.
The hospital employs 30 specialist doctors, 8 assistant doctors, 66 nurses, and 4 additional specialists. In total, the hospital has 212 employees.
Approximately 36,000 outpatients visit the hospital annually. The hospital has a total of 200 beds in four-bed rooms, double rooms, single rooms, and suites. In India, it is common for a family member to stay with the patient and take care of meals. The suites are designed for this and include a small kitchen as well as an additional bed for a relative.
Interns typically work from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. If you need more hours, the internship can be combined with Kutumb Hospital, where shifts from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM are possible.
Kutumb Hospital
Kutumb Hospital is a new and modern private hospital. The outpatient clinic opens daily at 5:00 PM and receives 30-50 outpatients per day. The other departments operate throughout the day. With a capacity of only 15 beds, the medical staff has more time than in other hospitals for individual patient care and to provide foreign medical students and interns with thorough explanations.
The hospital’s specialties include maternal and child care, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatrics & neonatal surgery, orthopedics with a joint replacement center including knee and hip replacement surgeries, 24/7 trauma center, physiotherapy, general medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery, and ultrasound diagnostics.
Clinical Electives and Healthcare Internships
All three hospitals offer clinical electives for medical students as well as internships for students and trainees in nursing, midwifery, and physiotherapy.
At Tagore Hospital, pre-medical, pre-nursing and pre-midwifery internships are also possible.
Nutritional Sciences
Eternal Hospital offers the opportunity to complete an internship in the field of nutritional sciences. The nutrition department develops meal plans for hospital patients, provides dietary counseling, and creates informational materials on nutrition-related topics.
Each medical student or intern is assigned a qualified supervisor from their department. It is possible to complete the internship in a single department or rotate through different areas. While all doctors speak English, not all nurses, other hospital staff, or patients do. However, an internship is still possible in English and does not require any knowledge of Hindi.
Your tasks as a medical student/intern include:
- Accompanying and supporting the staff
- Participating in ward rounds and department meetings
- Performing minor procedures under supervision, such as:
- Administering medication
- Wound care
- Measuring vital signs
- Assisting with vaccinations
Pre-medical, pre-nursing and pre-midwifery interns at Tagore Hospital will primarily accompany and observe the nursing and medical teams and will be able to ask questions.
You should bring a white, green, or blue scrub top, closed shoes, your own disinfectant and a stethoscope. If you want to observe surgeries, you will also need green or blue surgical clothing, a face mask, and a surgical cap.
