Treatment of Stray Animals in Cochin, Kerala

Internship and Volunteering Possible
Mad Dog Trust is an NGO in Cochin, Kerala, that offers veterinary treatment to sick and abandoned street animals. This is funded through donations. A veterinarian, Dr. Shruti is employed here. We offer internships in the field of veterinary medicine, as well as volunteering in the care, support and treatment of animals.

Project Details

The sick and injured stray animals are usually dogs, cats, goats, emus and cows. Sometimes pets are brought to Mad Dog; but usually, citizens call Mad Dog about sick/injured animals that they take into their care. Abandoned young animals are brought to Mad Dog Trust. Occasionally, citizens report abused animals and pets, which are confiscated by Mad Dog Trust; there is often difficulty in convincing the owners.
After treatment and recovery, stray animals without owners are either brought back on the road, adopted or they stay with Mad Dog Trust, who have a house with a garden in Cochin.
Mad Dog Trust also carries out regular vaccination campaigns, where most street dogs are vaccinated against rabies. These stray dogs are caught and get in place a Impfspritze.
Another core activity is educational events at schools about animal husbandry and animal rights.
Mad Dog Trust offers internships in the field of veterinary medicine. These are open to everyone, both for trainees without any prior knowledge, as well as for veterinary students and professional experts who want to support the work of the NGO.
You learn not only from Dr. Shruti about common diseases and injuries of pets and farm animals, but you also take care of the animals on the premises of Mad Dog Trust (feeding, grooming, dog run, play).
