Daegu
With a population of 2.5 million, Daegu is South Korea's third-largest city. It is known as Korea's number one student city, with six major universities and 17 other colleges, attracting a significant number of international students.
Downtown Daegu has a vibrant atmosphere, characterized by creatively designed bars, clubs, shops, and markets. The Buk-Gu district, in particular, reflects the lively student life in the city. The cost of living in Daegu is significantly cheaper compared to Seoul, thanks to the large student population.
As an industrial city, Daegu is home to various manufacturing sectors, including electronics, high-tech, fashion, and textiles. This creates job opportunities for Working Holiday participants in light factory work and logistics.
Daegu's Bongsan-dong district has become an emerging art scene, contributing to the city's overall youthful, creative, and lively atmosphere. Throughout the year, Daegu hosts a range of events and festivals, such as the Daegu Fashion Fair, the Asian Bodypainting Festival, the Chicken and Beer Festival, the Daegu International Music Festival, the Colorful Daegu Festival in May, and the Daegu International Jazz Festival.
The city of Daegu is conveniently located between Seoul and Busan, with a travel time of 1 hour and 45 minutes to Seoul by train, and about 50 minutes to Busan. Trains in South Korea are surprisingly inexpensive.
In the outskirts of Daegu, there are villages, towns, and historical sites of significance, along with Buddhist temples and mountains like Palong-san, which you can explore.
The city has a humid, subtropical climate, with hot and rainy summers, as well as cool and dry winters.
