Small relaxing hotel in the North of Zanzibar
The hotel is directed by Saef and Elizabeth, a couple who have started the hotel and growing it throughout the years. The compound consists of a large garden plot with lawn, hammocks, deck chairs and old trees, on which there are several individual buildings with a total of 14 rooms. On two sides of the plot there are other, similar bungalow hotels and on the third side there is the beach. The guests are mixed, families, couples and retired people, mainly from Europe. The hotel has 3-star standard and focusses on relaxation, which means there is no loud music and entertainment;the guests are at the hotel to relax, read, play badminton in the garden or stroll around the area. Exercising restraint is the philosophy of Saef and Elizabeth - the staff should never be intrusive or pushing sales.
The tasks of the intern would be to support Elizabeth with the quality control of the room service in order to be capable to do it independently every day, to motivate the staff, to assist with the stock keeping management of the restaurant, to communicate and socialise with guests, and to find and implement ways how to improve the hotel. If you can identify tasks from which you think they make sense for the benefit of the hotel and you think you are capable to perform them, this is appreciated by Elizabeth and Saef.
You would be working closely with Saef and Elizabeth. They want you to be proactive and capable to recognise what the hotel needs and implement it. A certain level of responsibilit is part of this internship position. In that way, even though the hotel is small there is a lot to learn in the area of hotel management. Saef and Elizabeth want you to be fully dedicated to the internship. You should not see your stay in Zanzibar as a holiday and they are not looking for someone who just comes to the island looking for beach and party, but for someone eager to learn.
If you are capable, Saef and Elizabeth are willing to even employ you after the internship as a hotel manager.
