Kilimanjaro Women’s Group Against AIDS
KIWAKUKKI (the abbreviation for "Kilimanjaro Women’s Group Against AIDS" in Kiswahili) is a well-known NGO in Moshi/Kilimanjaro, mainly working with women. KIWAKUKKI was founded 15 years ago and today ounts approx. 2000 members who are independently organised in 80 local women groups. Through these members, KIWAKUKKI is able to directly reach families and children who are affected of HIV.
KIWAKUKKI is currently supporting 600 families, by counseling, carrying out HIV tests, taking care of HIV infected people, supporting families in improving their income (e.g. assistance at realizing small businesses) and by providing financial help to families which are hosting orphan children at their homes ("Home-based care program"). Further, KIWAKUKKI arranges awareness campaigns, provides HIV education, and informs about children’s rights to children under the age of eight.
To measure the achievement of goals and control the work of the local women groups, an employee of the KIWAKUKKI headquarters at Moshi Town is visiting each women group at least once per month.
As a volunteer, you are going to work mostly at KIWAKUKKI’s head quarter in Moshi Town, assisting in administration, planning, communication and coordination.
