Environmental campaigning Alboran Sea

The organisation for environmental conservation of the administrative district of Tétouan has been founded in 1985 with the purpose to inform the public about the need for environmental protection and conservation, to actively participate in environmental conservation, to actively intervene against environmental pollution and to promote the ecological heritage as part of the arabic-islamic culture.

The reach these goals, the organisation is carrying out campaigns and seminars, including radio programs and newspaper articles, often in cooperation with other national and international environmental organisations and ministries.

Since 1994, a network of local representatives has been established in cooperation with the municipality of Tétouan and the city of Malaga in Spain on the opposite side of the sea.

The goal of the cooperation with the city of Malaga is to raise awareness amongst the population on both sides of the sea for the protection of the Alboran Sea, how the marine area in the western Mediterranean between the uninhabited island of Alboran and the strait of Gibraltar is called. The island and its surrounding areas are protected.

In Spain and in Morocco, seminars, events, visits and campaigns are being carried out where volunteers and interns can assist. Knowledge of Spanish, French and/or Arabic are of advantage.
