Nursery school for children with developmental delay
The Tamra-based institution is a day-care centre for children aged 1 to 6 years who have developmental deficits, such as motoric and speech impediments, and children, who are just slower in their overall physical and mental development.
The children are not mentally or physically disabled; the causes behind their deficits are in most cases psychological. Approximately 60 children of northern Israel attend the centre; Mondays and Thursdays, care is offered only in the afternoons, the rest of the days, except of Friday, the children attend the centre from morning to afternoon.
There are 13 female professionals working in the center, including a speech therapist, psychologist, physiotherapist, and 4 social workers. The social workers are analysing the social environment of the children to identify causes for the developmental deficits of the children and try to eliminate possible negative factors.
As a volunteer or trainee, you can take part in activities with the children and for example play with them. Possible are ialso internships in the field of child psychology, speech therapy and physiotherapy.
