Nursery school for children with developmental delay
The Tamra-based institution is a day-care centre for children aged 1 to 6 years who have developmental deficits, such as motoric and speech impediments, and children, who are just slower in their overall physical and mental development.
The children are not mentally or physically disabled; the causes behind their deficits are in most cases psychological.
During your short-time volunteering your can look after the children and play with them.

Community centre - course leader for children and youth
The community center of Tamra is member of the Israeli association of community centres “Matnas”. It aims at improving and enriching the social, cultural and sports life of local communities, and offers a variety of worthwhile activities to children, youths and adults.
For children aged 5-15 years, the community center of Tamra offers activities including drama, music lessons, sports activities, excursions and travel, ballet and “Dapka”, the region’s traditional Arabic dance.
For youths aged 15 to 18, besides cultural and sports activities, there are further program options such as youth leadership, vocational training, critical issues such as drugs and HIV, and training in social responsibility. The community centre also runs a job market for job starters.
Every year, during the whole month of July, a “Summer Camp” takes place in a park near the town. Approximately 400 children, starting from 5 years, can participate in the daytime activities, but they stay at their regular accommodation in town.
The center is looking for volunteers who can instruct courses related to culture, dance, music and sports. If you have specific expertise in some activity that you can teach to children and youths and if you let us know at least 2 months before your arrival, the centre can include your course in the range of activities being offered and can find enough participants.

Home and swimming with mentally challenged women
In Tamra, there are three public institutions accommodating 33 women with slight mental disabilities. With our short-time volunteering option you will spend time with these women. You can also go swimmingwith them. Many of them take part in swimming competitions for the handicapped. They are Israel's mostsuccessful team of handicapped swimmers.

Farm: Olives and pomegranates
Thousands of pomegranate, olive and fig trees are growing on the Mediterranean hills around the town of Tamra. We now offer the opportunity to live with and do an internship at small
family-run farms which cultivate pomegranates, olives and figs.
The extensive fosterage of the pomegranates starts in April and they will be
harvested from the middle of October on. Olives are being gathered between
October and December and at the same time the pressing of the olive oil begins -
this process is particularly interesting. During the time of the harvest, life
in the village is very active: Everyone of the village including children and
grandparents are helping. Everyone is just like a big family. A stay at the
farms of this village however is possible throughout the year: Also during the
other months of the year you won't be bored.
Besides pomegranates and olives various other vegetables,
fruits and herbs are being cultivated, such as cucumbers, citrus fruits and
mangos. One of the farms is additionally roasting coffee. The coffee beans
arrive from Tanzania and then get roasted in revolving gas ovens for around one
hour. After that, they need to get cooled down on flat plates and small
particles are getting filtered out. The roasted beans then will be ground and
spiced with cardamom.
The coffee powder will then be packed for sale in local shops
and for restaurants and cafés that use itfor the preparation of classic arabic
Mocha. Another special oven is used to roast pistachios, almonds, nuts and pine
nuts that will be used forconfectionary. You can take part in the roasting of
coffee and nuts.
