St. Ritaliza Boarding School in Himo
"St. Ritaliza of Mt. Carmel" has been founded as an English-speaking Kindergarten and primary boarding school in 2007 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. It is located in Holili, around 90 minutes by Daladala (public transport) outside of Moshi Town (heading towards Kenya/Marangu), directly at the Daladala's final stop called "Holili".
Most of the 300 students are staying at the boarding school. There are 12 teachers, but to improve the offer for the students, Sister Rosemary and Sister Betty are happy to receive foreign volunteers. They are specifically interested in:
* Professional teachers
* Someone who can play a variety of games with kindergarten and primary school children
* Someone who understands about library management to support the library
* Someone who can give an introduction to computers to children
* Someone who can draw, paints and teach arts to children
* Language teachers, particularly for English and German language. You would assist a local teacher and during the weekends you would also read stories to children
* Someone who understands about farming and can help at the school garden growing vegetables, and who can direct projects about farming and biology for the students
As St. Ritaliza is a Christian school, volunteers/interns should follow certain rules in respect of their clothing - cloths should be decent and suitable for a teacher. Women should not wear short skirts or dresses; and trousers only if they are not too tight.
The school can make use of its own accommodation for volunteers/interns in Himo village, where they can stay for a very low rent which is just covering the costs.
