Japanese Manga art in Morocco
The group "DRAGON TANGER" has been founded in 2008. Its aims consist in using manga comics for educational purposes, to approach youth in Morocco to literature, writing and arts, to stimulate their potentials and talents, and to make them open-minded to new horizons without giving up their local cultural and customs.
Besides this, the group wants to develop "Moroccan Manga" and "Moroccan anime" as independent sub-genres, and they want to foster cultural exchange and communication between youth from Morocco and youth from Japan.
Since their inception, the organization has carried out numerous activities:
• Realization of the magazine MANGASHI, a manga comic which has the purpose to sensitize the readers with topics concerning environment and society.
• Realization of the „MANGAEXPO“, an exhibtion including conferences and workshops about manga and anime, taking place annually in springtime.
• Implementation of an internet forum and Youtube channel.
At the moment, the group is working on a video documentation about the art of manga in Morocco and the Arabic world.
Volunteers can assist with the following tasks:
• Giving art-related workshops such as origami, drawing, manga, material recycling for use in arts, model-making etc.
• Teaching theatre acting
• Giving lessons in drawing, design, comic, animation, AV media production, multimedia, manga and anime culture
• Teaching Japanese
• Participating in the implementation of the magazine MANGASHI and the MANGAEXPO.
Ideally, volunteers should have at least basic knowledge of French language; however it is also possible to communicate in English and Spanish.

Location: Tangier, Morocco
Duration: Minimum 1 week*. During the school holidays in summer, daily intensive workshops can be carried out; during the rest of the year, this volunteer placement might be limited to twice per week afternoons only, however volunteers can combine their activity with DRAGON TANGER with other Tanger-based organisations.
