Hotel in Zanzibar

 

This internship takes place at a tourist hotel of standard price category at the East Coast of Zanzibar. The hotel is located directly next to one of the most beautiful white sandy palm-fringed tropical beaches of the island.

The hotel is operated by the owners and it is characterised by its enjoyable family-like atmosphere and flat hierarchies. It is a concern of the owner that the local population of the nearby village has a share in tourism. Therefore most employees come from the village, food supplies such as vegetables are purchased at the village as far as possible, and the good relationship between the villagers and the tourists is boosted by the owner’s initiative that locals offer interesting excursions to tourists, giving them the possibility to get a genuine insight into the everyday life of a Zanzibari coastal village. The hotel is harmoniously embedded into the site's original vegetation. Facilities and furniture are in most parts constructed from ecologically justifiable local materials.

 

The intern will get an insight into the management and operations of such a hotel and can work actively in all areas of the hotel.

 

Accommodation will be provided in the staff house, as well as food.

 

The owners are currently building a second hotel and have already opened some holiday apartments. The interns can also get involved in these activities.
