Residential care home - physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing
The municipal residential care home was built in 2008 and meets the most modern standards. At the moment only one of the new building’s four floors is being used, where there are currently around 20 persons residing, who are dependent on care. It is planned to have the institution fully operational by 2011 with a total capacity of around 90 patients.
The patients of the nursing home are mostly elderly people, not only from Tamra but from other cities as well. They are accommodated in single or double rooms. There is a fully equipped modern department for physiotherapy. The same importance is given to occupational therapy; the patients for instance are regularly carrying out garden work, they create clothes and produce handicrafts.
Currently, 30 persons are working at the home, including a social worker, an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, a physician and nurses. The nursing home also has an ambulance car.
The institution is looking for volunteers and interns with skills and experience in the following fields: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, and general medicine – clinical electives are possible as well. The staff is well-trained and qualified and can supervise the internship/elective; they are also qualified to provide confirmations for universities.
At this home, it is even possible to do an internship without any previous experience, assisting the local staff. Please note that professional foreign volunteers are only allowed to volunteer under the supervision of the local staff.
