Studio of Ahmad Canaan
Ahmad Canaan, born 1965, is a popular Arab-Palestinian artist of Tamra/Israel, who creates paintings and sculptures that are being shown at international exhibitions and that are being sold world-wide. His works combine western artistic styles with traditional Islamic ornamental art in a unique manner.
Canaan’s pieces of art have been shown in many relevant and famous galleries and museums, e.g. in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Korea, Japan, Salt Lake City, Marseille, Cardiff, Jordan, Washington, London, Michigan, Qatar, Dubai and Greece. Some of his large sculptures made from stone, metal, wood or mixed materials are being situated on public squares and parks of various cities, or are owned by individuals.
Canaan’s work is characterized by a remarkably broad range of styles that he has developed over the years. The artist often dedicates particular periods of his work to specific styles or topics, such as "The knight" or "ploughs", which was inspired by the most important tool for his ancestors, the Canaanites, who are the oldest known people residing in the holy land of Syria-Palestine, "Earth and sky", which added the dimension of sky to the earthy concept of the plough, depicting gigantic bird in the sky, and "barriers", which pictures the rage and fury of a defeated folk.
At Tamra, besides his studio, Canaan runs his own art gallery. Further he is curator of Tamra's "Gallery of Art". A visit of his residence, studio and garden, which reminds of the architecture and landscape design of Gaudi or Hundertwasser, and which is full of statues, paintings and architectonic elements is an exciting experience.
As an intern/volunteer, you can work together with Canaan in his studio and you can assist him with the implementation of exhibitions in Tamra and the whole of Israel. This position is perfect for students of art as well as artists seeking for creative exchange.
