Stay with the Massai -
the ultimate African adventure!

World Unite! now offers the possibility to stay at a real Massai village and live like the Massai. This means you will not stay at a comfortable hotel which has some "Massai theming", but you will stay in a real, very simple Massai hut - definitely an authentic experience you will never forget and the perfect addition to your safari or Kili climb with ZARA Tours! If you stay longer than a night only, you will have the rare opportunity to participate at the real Massai life. You will be looking after the cattle, you will assist the Massai women doing the typical colourful Massai jewelery and you will enjoy tasting Massai "specialties" such as fermented milk. Did you ever imagine living such a life?

This new experience is not staged for tourism - in fact there are very few tourists coming to this particular Massai village. It was the initiative of two Massai from the village, Laizer and Leronjo who have been working with our partner ZARA Tours for a couple of years. Now ZARA has helped them to get permission from the Tanzania Cultural Tourism Program to accommodate tourists at their home village and they have constructed a couple of huts for their international guests. When you're at the village you seem to be in the middle of the East African endless savanna at a very remote place. However, the village is in fact conveniently located just 15 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport on the plains between Arusha and Moshi. There is mobile phone coverage and a doctor can reach it within short time for the case you might need one.

The Massai (also spelled Maasai, Maassai and Masai) are an indigenous African ethnic group of semi-nomadic people located in Kenya and northern Tanzania. Due to their distinctive customs and dress they are among the most well known of African ethnic groups. They speak Maa, a member of the Nilo-Saharan language family, however most of them can also communicate in Swahili and Laizer and Leronjo along with some others from the village can speak English.
