Accommodation in India

Mumbai

Inner city accommodation of acceptable standard in Navi Mumbai is generally not very cheap and options are limited.

At the moment we can make use of the following accommodation for our participants:

Student hall of residency for female participants, central location in Vashi. 4 female participants are sharing a room, but the rent in this case is only around 30 € (45 USD) per month. It is not possible to pay more and have the room on your own or share with less people. You have to be back at 9:30 pm.

Alternatively, there are guest houses in Vashi and Koparkharaine which typically only rent to Indian students for long-term stays at relatively affordable rates. 3-4 Indian students are typically sharing a room, but if you want you can also have the whole room for yourself, if you pay for all the beds. The rooms have en-suite bathrooms. The Guest house doesn't have kitchen or fridge. Sharing, the costs are around 60 € (90 USD) per month; single room from around 180 € (270 USD). Typically, you can enter the guest house at any time, but you cannot leave it after midnight. There is cleaning service in the rooms.

Further, there is the possibility to rent a 2-room apartment (maximum for 3 people). This is outside the city centre, in Panvel, simple standard. You have to clean yourself. The rent is around 180 € (250 USD) per month.

Everywhere in Navi Mumbai food is relatively cheap and there are plenty of options. There are many restaurants, from simple standard to luxury, from Indian to Chinese to Western food.

Gurgaon and New Delhi

Accommodation is at Guest Houses, the rent is around 150 € (210 USD) per month.

Jaipur

Accommodation is at host families at a rate of around 4.50 € (6.20 USD) per day including meals. If several participants are staying with the host family at the same time, the room has to be shared with further participants of the same sex for the same rate (up to 4). At similar rates, Jaipur also offers the possibility to stay at a single room of a guest house, but not including meals.

Jodhpur

In Jodhpur, accommodation is at a guest house of good standard for around 210 € (300 USD) per month including meals and wireless internet.

Setrawa

In Setrawa (village in the Thar Desert), our participants stay at host families. Including meals, the costs are only around 60 € per month (90 USD), simple standard. In the summer, when temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius (122 F), the whole family is typically sleeping on the roof. Volunteers in Setrawa regularly go by bus to Jodhpur to spend the weekend in the city, so you should also calculate with expenses for transport and accommodation costs in Jodhpur; so the total per month would be around 150 € (210 USD).

Cochin

Accommodation is at a guest house of good standard at a central location in Cochin.

Himalaya

Accommodation will be at the Chrysalid Outdoor Learning centre, a camp where team building initiatives and sports activities in nature are carried out for groups. You will live in a comfortable tent in which it is possible to stand, which has electricity, electric light, a bed, writing desk and its own brick-built bathroom with western toilet and hot water. The accommodation includes the typical Indian early morning tea (around 2 hours before breakfast), breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or coffee with snack, soup and dinner as well as 1 liter of bottled mineral water per day.
